The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath. Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.
Revelation 16:17-20

We are clearly warned in Scripture that the final shaking will be the removal of created things so that what cannot be shaken may remain (Hebrews 12:25-29). Today we will see four things that will endure.

  1. God’s Word
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Matthew 24:35

This amazing promise from Jesus assures us that whether people believe the Scriptures or not, God’s word does not change. It is always true, and its power is life-changing.
  1. The Kingdom of God
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”
Hebrews 12:28-29

The kingdom we are receiving is not about geography. The universe is the finite creation of our infinite God. The Kingdom of God is about our relationship with him. When we are born again (John 3) we enter a relationship with Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We learn to walk in joyful obedience. This new life lasts forever: His life in us eternally (Colossians 1:27).
  1.  The New Heavens and Earth
But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
2 Peter 3:13

We will not spend eternity as disembodied spirits floating in space. The resurrection of Jesus and his meeting and eating with his disciples is proof that in the new creation there will be physical bodies free from sin, disease, and death. We will, like Jesus, have bodies that are glorious and imperishable (1 Corinthians 15:42-58; 1 John 3:2-3).
  1.  God’s Covenant Love

Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

Isaiah 54:10

In eternity our love relationship with God will never weaken or fade. He has loved us perfectly and we will love him perfectly forever (Jeremiah 31:3; John 14:1-3; Romans 8:38-39).
